Kaamatan is a harvest festival celebrated annually by the ethnic groups of Sabah, especially the Kadazan-Dusun, Murut & Rungus people. It is a celebration of thanksgiving offered by farmers to honour the rice spirit, Bambaazon, and to thank Kinoingan (God) for the bountiful rice harvest. Prayers are also held in hope for another bountiful harvest in the following year.
