Situated in the northernmost state of Perlis, Lake Timah Tasoh is a man-made reservoir. It gets its name from the two rivers of Sungai Timah and Sungai Tasoh (Sungai means river) which flow into the lake.
The construction of the lake began in 1987 and was completed in 1992 to serve as a water catchment area to the surroundings.
Lake Timah Tasoh is a picture of calm and serenity. Ideal for a peaceful holiday away from the hustle and bustle of city life, Lake Timah Tasoh beckons with beautiful views of the surrounding greenery and undulating hills that fringe the lake area.
The sounds are totally different here – delight in hearing the chirping of birds, rustle of leaves and the soft buzz of distant boat engines. This is where one can watch the golden sunrise and appreciate nature’s melody.
The lake area is a haven for hundreds of migratory birds that flock here during the winter season in the northern hemisphere. Lake Timah Tasoh has been declared as an important area for birds and biological diversity by the International Bird Life, a global partnership of conservation organisations. The lake area has recorded about 135 to 145 species of birds. The best time to spot the migratory birds would be from the months of October to March.
Lake Timah Tasoh is located about 17 km from Kangar, the capital of Perlis.
