Bask in the breathtaking panoramic views of Perlis at the Wang Kelian Viewpoint, which is located in Compartment 5 at the Hutan Simpanan Mata Ayer (forest reserve) that makes up a part of Taman Negeri Perlis. Here, you can also gaze out at the migratory birds that will journey past Banjaran Nakawan.
The Wang Kelian Viewpoint is the best place for unobstructed views of carpeted clouds, which envelop the area. Make your way here in the early hours of the morning to experience the radiant sunrise along the horizon. Note that there will be a slight uphill walk to the platform en route to the viewpoint.

There are many ways to reach the Wang Kelian Viewpoint. Firstly, you can take the ETS from KL Sentral to the Padang Besar Railway Station, which is only a 17-minute drive from the viewpoint. In addition, you may also opt for the public bus. Board the bus at Terminal Bersepadu Selatan, which will take you to the Kangar Bus Terminal and from there, board bus number T11 to Kaki Bukit, which is just five minutes away from the Wang Kelian Viewpoint.

Perlis State Park, also known as Taman Negeri Perlis, was constructed in 1997, making it the first-ever state park in Malaysia to be established. One of the many highlights of the Perlis State Park is the blooming and lively fauna and flora that encompasses the area. Surrounded by a thick and luscious forest, great cave systems and tall and glorious hills, this park is a definite must-visit anytime you are in Perlis.
It is said that the Perlis State Park is home to over 70 species of mammals, 200 species of birds and 35 reptile species , so keep an eye out for a few creepy crawlies while you are here. The main purpose of the park is to conserve, protect and educate.
For all the trekking lovers out there, this state park is a must-visit destination for you. Trek along some of the many hiking trails that have been carefully prepared to allow you to safely and comfortably embrace nature’s bounty along the way.
The Perlis State Park is open daily from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
To reach the Perlis State Park, you can either drive there by taking the North-South Expressway to the Alor Setar exit and follow through Kangar. Take route 7, which will take you along Padang Besar and from there, you will pass Timah Tasoh. Then, take route 15 and head towards Kampung Wang Kelian, where you will see the entrance to the park on your right.
Alternatively, visitors can also hop aboard the bus at Terminal Bersepadu Selatan, which will take them to Kangar and from there hop onto bus number T11 to reach Kaki Bukit, which is a 10-minute drive from the park. Taking the train is also another option to reach the Perlis State Park. You can take the ETS from KL Sentral to Padang Besar and from there, it is a 20-minute car ride to the state park.

Located within the Perlis State Park itself, Gunung Perlis is one of the many attractions to visit while you are there. The hill stretches over 733 metres with two hiking trails making it the perfect place for hiking lovers to safely explore.
Gunung Perlis is also classified as part of the Hill Dipterocarp Forest in Malaysia. Hike along the trails to reach the peak of the hill to enjoy the fantastic views of Perlis. As you journey forward, keep an eye out for some fascinating flora and fauna that can be found along the way. Also, you will have the opportunity to spot a natural waterfall during your hike. The gushing waters offer peace and tranquillity as well as the comfort from a cool breeze during short stops for a brief respite.
Nestled in the Perlis State Park also, the Wang Burma Cave is the perfect place for those who enjoy cave exploring. Known for its variety of insects and fungi, this cave allows you to come up-close with these fascinating findings.
It is worth noting that the Wang Burma Cave is divided into two parts.
The first part highlights stalagmites, stalactites, columns and other rock formations, and the first portion of the cave is the easier option to walk through. The other section of the cave features a muddy trail, which includes narrow passages, dark turns and beautiful rock formations, which have been worn out by water.
To reach the Wang Burma Cave, visitors can drive down via the North-South Expressway to the Alor Setar exit and follow through to Kangar. Keep going on Route 7, which heads through Padang Besar. Pass through Timah Tasoh on your left and turn left to Gua Kelam. Take Route R5, which heads towards Kampung Wang Kelian and you will see the Park Visitor Centre on your right. Each visitor will need to register at the entrance and those who wish to hike up Gunung Perlis or explore the Wang Burma Cave can hire a guide that can be found around the area.
