The Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) for Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Sabah and several areas in other states has been extended to January 14 due to a significant rise in COVID-19 cases nationwide.
The areas include Penang (Mukim 12 Barat Daya dan Mukim 13 Timur Laut), Negeri Sembilan (Seremban) and Johor (Johor Bahru & Batu Pahat districts).
At the same time, our government has also extended the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) nationwide until March 31 as the order has been gazetted in the Federal Government Gazette.
Our Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in the televised New Year's Eve address also reminded us that the war against COVID-19 is not over. The government will continue to tighten the border control to guard against COVID-19 cases by illegal immigrants.
Muhyiddin said the Health Ministry would also implement National COVID-19 Immunisation Plan in three phases beginning this February. The free vaccine will be given to the high-risk groups, including senior citizens and patients with non-communicable diseases (NCD) and chronic respiratory illnesses.
To assure the people of its safety, Muhyiddin will be among the first to take the jabs besides the frontline workers.
Malaysia has previously inked agreements with the COVAX Facility, Pfizer and AstraZeneca to guarantee 40 per cent supply of vaccines and currently in the final stage of negotiation to increase the supply to more than 80 per cent of the country's population.
Muhyiddin also stressed that the government would continue to ease the people’s burden and strengthen the national agenda of eliminating poverty in Malaysia.
As of January 7, Malaysia celebrated the recoveries of 2,145 more patients, and the overall COVID-19 recovery rate is at 80%. At the same time, Malaysia also recorded the highest 3,027 new cases, totalling 102,723 cases nationwide. The total deaths are 521 cases or 0.4% of the confirmed cases.
