Key Information for Travelers to Malaysia.

Our government has enforced the Movement Control Order (MCO) in Selangor, Penang, Melaka, Johor and Sabah including Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan for two weeks beginning January 13 until January 26 to curb the alarming rise of COVID-19 cases.
Not only inter-district travel is prohibited in the areas of MCO, but also interstate travel is not allowed across Malaysia during the period.
Under this MCO 2.0, people can only travel within a 10 kilometres radius from home as only two people per household are permitted to travel in the same vehicle to buy groceries.
Supermarkets, clinics, hospitals, pharmacies and banks in the MCO areas to operate with high levels of vigilance. However, social gatherings including weddings, conferences, religious processions, meetings, seminars and group sports are banned while dine-ins are not allowed in eateries except for takeaway service.
For outdoor recreational activities, jogging in pairs within members of the same household is allowed. But cycling in groups is prohibited.
Any individuals who violate these directives are subjected to a maximum fine of RM1,000 under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342).
Meanwhile, another six states of Negeri Sembilan, Perak, Kedah, Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu are placed under the less stringent MCO called Conditional MCO (CMCO) with Perlis and Sarawak are put under Recovery MCO (RMCO). Social activities allowed in RMCO areas, provided in full compliance of standard operating procedure (SOP).
According to our Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, five essentials economic sectors are permitted to operate during the MCO period, namely manufacturing, construction, services, trade & distribution and plantations & commodities. Only 30 per cent of management staff are allowed at the workplace with SOPs in place.
As of January 12, Malaysia celebrated the recoveries of 1,469 more patients, and the overall COVID-19 recovery rate is at 78.1%. At the same time, Malaysia also recorded 3,309 new cases, totalling 141,533 cases nationwide. The total deaths are 559 cases or 0.4% of the confirmed cases.
