With the tagline 'We Are Safe To Visit’, the state government is ready to set an upbeat promotion to revive the local tourism industry, except for Pulau Perhentian in Besut, which remains closed.
At the same time, Langkawi will be reopened for local tourists under a pilot scheme for Malaysia's travel bubble, effective 16 September 2021. Other tourist destinations will also be allowed to operate when the locality vaccination rate reaches 80 per cent.
Malaysia is expected to enter the endemic phase of COVID-19 by the end of October, thanks to the increased vaccination rate in the country. As of 1 September 2021, Malaysia has vaccinated 61 per cent of the population with one dose, including 46.7 per cent who have completed both doses. A total of 35.1 million vaccines doses have been administered to date.
On the other hand, the government has previously announced more leeway for fully vaccinated people in states under Phase 1 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP), including dine-in at eateries, besides allowing the operation of night markets.
Starting 26 August 2021, Labuan has become the first federal territory to be transitioned to Phase 4 of the NRP. Under Phase 4, social activities such as festive celebrations can be conducted at a 50 per cent capacity rate, and economic sectors could operate with 100 per cent of the workforce in compliance with standard operating procedures (SOP).
Meanwhile, effective 4 September 2021, Negeri Sembilan will be transitioned to Phase 3 of NRP, and Melaka will be moving to Phase 2. Currently, both Perlis and Sarawak remain in Phase 3 while Perak, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Sabah are placed under Phase 2.
However, the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and the states of Johor and Kedah are still in Phase 1 of NRP, which is under lockdown of activities except for those deemed essential.
As of 2 September 2021, another 23,473 COVID-19 patients have recovered, and the overall COVID-19 recovery rate is at 84.34%. At the same time, Malaysia also recorded 20,988 new cases, totalling 1,786,004 cases nationwide. The total number of deaths is 17,191 cases or representing 0.96% of the confirmed cases.
