Dear Friends of Malaysia,
The Malaysian government has imposed prevention and control measures by updating its standard operating procedures (SOP) for travellers entering Malaysia in light of the emergence of the Omicron COVID-19 variant.
Malaysia has placed a temporary travel ban from eight African countries, including South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and Malawi. Travellers from the United Kingdom (UK), US, Australia, France and Norway on home quarantine will need to wear a digital tracking device.
Under Langkawi International Travel Bubble and Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL), the new regulations require travellers to undergo COVID-19 testing every day for seven days after arrival.
Travellers need to take an RT-PCR test two days before departure, compared to the previous 72-hour PCR test requirement. This includes another RT-PCR test upon arrival in Malaysia.
In addition, travellers must conduct an RTK-Antigen self-test on day 2, day 4, and day 6, and a professionally administered RTK-Antigen test on day 3 and day 5. All results must be reported on the contact tracing app, MySejahtera. Besides that, travellers also need to undergo an RT-PCR test before leaving Langkawi.
Meanwhile, Malaysian citizens and foreigners with long term pass holders arriving from temporarily restricted countries are required to be quarantined for 14 days at designated centres. They need to wear a digital tracking device and undergo another RT-PCR on day 10 of quarantine.
As of 11 December 2021, Malaysia has fully inoculated 97.3% of its adult population or 78.1% of its total population, with 89.7% of youth aged between 12 and 17, received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccines.
Another 4,690 COVID-19 patients have recovered, and at the same time, Malaysia recorded 4,626 new cases, totalling 2,682,032 cases nationwide. The country’s COVID-19 death toll is 30,862.
