Travellers who have received a booster dose of COVID-19 are subject to a five-day quarantine upon arrival in Malaysia, effective 24 January 2022. The seven-day quarantine will be imposed on those who have had two doses of vaccines without booster jab and ten days if unvaccinated or partly vaccinated.

Travellers need to undergo a pre-departure COVID-19 PCR test two days before travelling to Malaysia, on arrival and day 4 of quarantine, or using a professionally administered rapid test kit (RTK) on the fifth day.

Travellers returning from high-risk countries who are allowed for home quarantine are still required to wear a digital tracking device. The Health Ministry has also agreed to eliminate temperature checks from the COVID-19 protocol.

On the other hand, the sale of airlines and bus tickets for the vaccinated travel lane (VTL) with Singapore has resumed starting 21 January 2022. However, the capacity restriction for bus and airlines tickets has been reduced to 50 per cent.

The resumption of the ticket sales is due to the outcome of the risk assessment that was done based on the existing COVID-19 conditions in both countries.

On another note, Malaysia’s COVID-19 vaccination program for children aged five to eleven will begin on 3 February 2022. The program will employ paediatric doses of the Pfizer vaccine, and parents will be able to plan appointment dates through the MySejahtera contact tracing app starting 31 January 2022.

As of 25 January 2022, another 3,559 Covid-19 patients have recovered, and at the same time, Malaysia has reported 4,066 new cases, totalling 2,840,225 cases countrywide. The country’s COVID-19 death toll is 31,918.
