3D2N In Perlis: A Weekend Guide

 
From glorious places of interest to delicious local food options, Perlis brims with plenty to explore. Despite its diminutive size, Perlis offers an array of attractions and landscapes that are sure to captivate visitors. It is recommended that you allocate at least three days in Perlis to truly appreciate the wonders here at a comfortable pace. Roam around wide fields, shop at the local markets or indulge in flavourful meals – you will be pleasantly surprised by the variety you will find here.

 

DAY

Day 1: Discover Enchanting Nature in Perlis



Start a slow and relaxing day at a cafe at Gua Kelam. Sip on a warm cup of coffee while you gaze out at the charming nature that surrounds the area. Spend your morning around Gua Kelam by strolling along under the shady trees or lounging by the river that flows from the cave.

For the adventurous, consider a caving activity. Walk along the wooden bridge at Gua Kelam 1 to catch a glimpse of a small river, spot bats hanging from the top of the cave and more.


Gua Kelam is a place for everyone, whether you are a caving novice or a professional. Gua Kelam 1 takes about 10 minutes while Gua Kelam 2 takes you an hour to pass through. For a more extreme adventure, try out the wet trail at Gua Kelam 2.

Perlis is also known for its cheap and affordable prices when it comes to shopping. Drop by Padang Besar Waremart and Arked Niaga Padang Besar, which are located near the border of Thailand. Here, you will get a chance to shop to your heart's content from stalls that sell local products at reasonable prices including tasty treats and souvenirs for you to take back as a memory of your trip to Perlis.

Next, visit Ladang Kenaf in the evening for a delightful feast for the eyes (and for your camera), where the vast open fields are surrounded by beautiful blooming flowers for that picture-perfect moment. At Ladang Kenaf, you will get to enjoy walking through the tall flowers while basking in the magnificent rays of the sun.

To end your first night, stop by Anjung Keli for a hearty meal. This large buffet-style restaurant is known for its selection of local delicacies. Simply fill your plates with some of Perlis’ specialities and enjoy!

DAY

Spend a Day Amidst Perlis’ Bountiful Nature

Start your day by dropping by Warung Tepi Sawah for an unforgettable breakfast with a view. The restaurant offers a large food selection, allowing you to enjoy the true wonders of a traditional Malaysian breakfast. Not only is the food the highlight of this place, but the view is definitely a plus point. Enjoy your delectable breakfast against a glorious backdrop of paddy fields that surround the restaurant.

After a filling breakfast, drop by Pusat Kecemerlangan Mempelam Harumanis to find out more about the mango plantation in Perlis. The Harumanis area consists of over 44 hectares of mango trees and other new plants. During your visit, be sure to try out the sweet and fleshy mangoes that are homegrown in this very garden. This plantation is said to have some of the best mangoes you will ever encounter. Another fan favourite from Pusat Kecemerlangan Mempelam Harumanis is a sweet glutinous rice delicacy served with a side of fresh mangoes, combining sweet and savoury flavours unlike any other.

After visiting Pusat Kecemerlangan Mempelam Harumanis, visit Bukit Chabang to take in its extraordinary view. This large open space offers unobstructed views of tall hills that surround the area. You will also get to interact with farm animals like friendly goats and chickens that roam freely around the field.

For a glimpse of a majestic sunset, make your way to the Timah Tasoh Lake. This water reservoir is home to many aquatic life as well as birds that also freely roam the area. Grab a spot near the lake, watch the sunset and witness the magnificent shadows it casts upon the area.

Cap off the night at Ladang Kenaf and enjoy an early dinner at Ladang Nipah Kipli. This restaurant is surrounded by tall palm trees within a big open field. Enjoy a comforting bowl of laksa (spicy noodles in tangy broth) as you sit under the shady trees or in the wooden huts at the restaurant.

DAY

Immerse Yourself in Perlis’ Local History

Start your morning right at Kangar Kopitok for a rich cup of Malaysian coffee with a side of the famous roti bakar. As you step into Kopitok, you will be greeted by the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, scrumptious buttered toasts and the buzz of morning chatter among the locals.

After a satisfying breakfast, visit Muzium Kota Kayang where you can learn all about the history of Perlis. There are many areas within the museum that you can visit namely the archaeological gallery, weaponry gallery, cultural gallery and royal gallery. The museum is also filled with interesting facts about the state as well as artefacts that tell the story of Perlis.

Before heading home, be sure to stop at the Kangar Street Art alleyway. Fully decorated from its walls to the floors, this alleyway is adorned with vibrant murals painted by local artists. Each painting at the Kangar Street Art unravels the tales across different cultures that can be found in Perlis. Strike a pose in front of some of the many murals to look back with fond memories long after your trip is over.
