Unwind & Refuel at Some of Ipoh’s Fantastic Sites

Set the tone for an ultra-relaxing stay here by checking in at the Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat to relax and unwind from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Enjoy a soak in the private pool in your villa or check out other wonderful facilities around the retreat such as the foot reflexology, thermal steam caves or a meditation cave and last but not least, the iconic hot springs. Each communal hot spring features different water temperatures, ranging from 37 to 40 degrees Celsius so you can pick the one with your desired temperature for a warm, calming soak as you feel the tension gradually leaving your body. If you prefer to enjoy the hot springs in private, fret not as each villa also comes with its own private hot springs pool.

After total rejuvenation, take a drive to Ipoh Town for an immensely satisfying and hearty meal of the Malaysian Nasi Ganja. Fill your plates with a heaping of rice, famously ‘drowned’ in the most spice-packed curry sauces before topping it off with a piece of fried chicken or fried fish for a wholesome meal that is sure to leave you content long after your last bite.

Next, head down to Concubine Lane, also known as Lorong Panglima, to explore the sights whilst walking off lunch. Formerly a rather bland area of shophouses is now known for its vibrant array of stalls selling a variety of gifts, souvenirs as well as treats and snacks aplenty.

As you stroll along the street, you will catch an unmistakable whiff of wonderful smells coming from freshly cooked street food and snacks that are made-to-order. Don’t forget to stop by some of the hidden cafes along the lane such as Ipoh Platf9rm Coffee Cafe, which is a must-visit for all Harry Potter fans. Its magical theme and design are heavily influenced by the famous movie franchise, bringing the world of Harry Potter to life. Make sure you don’t leave without downing a delicious glass of the famous Butterbeer when you visit!

After an enjoyable journey down Concubine Lane, head back to the Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat for a moment of calm and total relaxation or enjoy another session in the hot springs, whilst taking in the beauty of its surrounding limestone hills.

Take your time to bask in tranquillity here, where you will be encompassed by the quiet and peaceful surroundings of the retreat. Designed exclusively as an adults-only resort also ensures utmost privacy and serenity throughout your stay. Besides its relaxing atmosphere, the view that you get from the Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat is heavenly. Overlooking towering and glorious limestone hills as well as the serene lake that surrounds the hot springs truly makes it the epitome of relaxation.

Feeling peckish? Check out the Fujiwara Tofu Shop for a spot of dinner. Here, try out some local picks such as the Tau Fu Fa (silky soy milk pudding), authentic Malaysian kuih (traditional steamed treats), noodle soups and more. With an ambience that takes you back to the 90s in Japan, this cafe is certainly a must-visit for a uniquely different experience. Don’t forget to sneak a peek at the retro car that is parked right in front of the cafe.

DAY

Immerse Yourself in the Ipoh’s Rich History

Start your day afresh by visiting some colonial buildings in the area. Pop over to the famous Ipoh Railway Station for a glimpse of Colonial British-inspired architecture. This pristine white building is still in use today as the main railway station in the city.

After a trip around the station, head in the opposite direction to the Ipoh Post Office and Town Hall where you will get to explore the history of the buildings during the British occupation. Built in 1916, these buildings were originally used as the main administrative offices in Ipoh. However, today the building is commonly used as a public space for weddings and other private events.

While you’re here, take a stroll down the road to the iconic Birch Memorial Clock Tower. Constructed in 1909, the clock tower has one mother bell and four smaller bells, dedicated to J.W.W. Birch. The Birch Memorial Clock Tower is decorated with murals of many influential figures such as the Buddha, Shakespeare, Moses and many more.

After an insightful historical adventure, refuel with classic Malaysian snacks and drinks at Ipoh’s OldTown White Coffee. Here, you will be able to enjoy a cup of Ipoh’s signature white coffee or indulge in local flavours with a good selection of Malaysian delights.

To cap-off the day, pop over to the Lost World Hot Springs and Spa, where you get to experience lively nightlife that awaits. Enjoy a dip in the warm waters of the hot springs or take a seat in the iconic steam cave to help you take your mind off the everyday pressures and worries - even if it’s just for a few hours.

The Lost World Hot Springs and Spa also has a special treat up its sleeve, which is the Flaming Percussions show. Here, you will get to witness a thrilling fire show as entertainers perform mind-blowing routines including fire eating, juggling and dance performances.

DAY

Indulge in Ipoh’s Best Eats Amidst Stunning Nature

End your trip on a high note with a fun and exciting time at Tasik Cermin, where you will be able to catch the reflective views of the famous ‘Mirror Lake’. Tasik Cermin is home to two mirror lakes; Tasik Cermin 1 Mirror Lake and Tasik Cermin 2 Hidden World. At each of these lakes, you have the option to take a boat ride to get to its best spots for a clearer view of the iconic reflection that the lakes give off.

After your trip to Tasik Cermin, whet your appetites with the iconic Salt Baked Chicken. There are various shops located in the city centre that are known to serve up this scrumptious savoury treat. Ipoh’s Salt Baked Chicken is famous because of its unique way of cooking the whole chicken, which involves burying them in hot salts over a fire to lock in the flavours of the spices that the chicken has been smothered in. The perfect way to enjoy this dish is with a warm serving of freshly cooked rice and tasty sides of vegetables.

In the afternoon, visit Lubuk Timah Hot Springs for a last dose of relaxation. Dip your toes in the warm and inviting waters or venture deep inside the retreat for a fun waterfall experience. Alternatively, finish off your experience with a rejuvenating swim along the river as you enjoy a day in the sun.

To seal your adventure with a sweet finish, drop by Kommons Cafe to try out its signature drinks or savour the sweet and savoury flavours of the cafe’s handmade pastries. Dare we say the perfect ending to a trip to remember.
